June 23: Habitat for Humanity Follow-up
On Saturday, June 23, members and friends of DC Dawgs participated in Habitat For Humanity at the Lee Highway Build Site in Fairfax, VA. Thank you to Molly Bauch, our Volunteer Coodinator, for all her work in setting up the event and to all who participated. June 30: White House Tour Follow-up
Several members of DC Dawgs participated in a tour of the East Wing of the White House on Saturday, June 30. A big thank you to Sheridan Watson and Senator Isakson's office for arranging the tour. We will plan to have another tour sometime this fall so look for details in the coming months. Be sure and check out the picture of the tour group on the Events Photo page.


May 9: DC Dawgs Host Second Annual "Ladies Night"
Thanks to all the UGA alumnae who attended the May 9 Ladies Event at City Tavern Club featuring Queen Bee Designs. We had approximately 25-30 alumnae come out for this great event. The DC Dawgs, in conjunction with the Georgia State Society, hosted its Second Annual "Ladies Night" with Allison Brooks, BSFCS '99, owner of Queen Bee Designs, from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at the City Tavern Club in Georgetown. A special thanks to Allison Brooks and Queen Bee Designs for making it happenQueen Bee Designs has turned into a very successful business for Brooks. Her jewelry is being worn by top news anchors, celebs, Miss America, & even Lynne Cheney. In addition, Brooks and her Queen Bee Designs have been featured on Good Morning America, in the Washington Post, Washingtonian Magazine, Lucky, and Women's Wear Daily. May 3: First-Thursday Dinner Club at Bangkok 54
The May dinner club will met at 7 p.m., Thursday, May 3, at Bangkok 54. Located in Arlington, Bangkok 54 features Thai cuisine. To see the Washington Post review, go to WashingtonPost.com.


April 28: DC Dawgs Participate in Hands On DC
Please join your fellow alumni on April 28, 2007, for Hands On DC, an all-volunteer project that creates better schools and brighter futures for students in the District of Columbia. Thousands of volunteers will join together for a one-day Work-a-Thon that improves conditions in the public schools and raises money for college scholarships. Bulldog Breakfast Club

April 25: Miss District of Columbia to Speak at BBC
DC Dawgs is pleased to announce our next Bulldog Breakfast Club, which will feature Miss District of Columbia, Katie Michaels, at 8 a.m., Wednesday, April 25, at McKenna Long & Aldridge, 1900 K Street NW (Map). Katie earned her B.B.A. International Business (Economics) Magna cum Laude from the University of Georgia. Upon graduation and for the past three years, she has worked in various capacities for the U.S. Government. She also attends Johns Hopkins University, part time, in pursuit of joint MBA/Master of Arts in Government degrees.


April 4: First-Thursday Dinner Club at Zaytinya
The April dinner club met at 7 p.m., April 4, at Zaytinya in Chinatown. Zaytinya features Greek, Turkish and Lebanese cuisine, as well as belly dancers for entertainment. February 1: First-Thursday Dinner Club at Vermilion
The February First-Thursday Dinner met at 7 p.m., February 1, at Vermilion Reataurant in Old Town Alexandria at 1120 King Street. If you have a restaurant recommendation for future dinners, please contact DC Dawgs President Lindsay Moss at lmoss@dcdawgs.org.

Gift Wrapping at Pentagon City Mall

December 13: Gift Wrapping at Pentagon City
DC Dawgs will be wrapping gifts from 5 - 11 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 13, at Pentagon Fashion Center to help benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund.



National Symphony Orchestra Holiday Pops Concert at the Kennedy Center

December 10: DC Dawgs Holiday Outing
The DC Dawgs Holiday Event at the Kennedy Center for the National Symphony Orchestra Holiday Pops concert on Dec. 10 is sold out. Thanks to all of you who have purchased tickets. Details on how to pick up your tickets will be sent next week. That meeting place, which will be located at the Kennedy Center, will be included with your ticket information.

Boulevard Woodgrill

November 2: First-Thursday Dinner Club at Boulevard Woodgrill
The November First-Thursday Dinner met at 7 p.m., November 2, at Boulevard Woodgrill in Clarendon at 2901 Wilson Boulevard. Twelve DC Dawgs enjoyed a great meal, some story-telling and getting to know fellow alumni. This restaurant was suggested by UGA alumni Valerie Ealston.


New Area Alumni Reception

October 26: New Area Alumni Reception
The UGA Alumni Association, Washington DC chapter hosted a New Area Alumni Reception for new alumni who have relocated to the DC area on Thursday, October 26, 6:00pm to 8:00pm at The Caucus Room, 401 9th Street NW, Washington, DC. Over forty alumni attended the event which featured great food in an excellent atmosphere. Several UGA items were raffeled off and there was some great discussion about upcoming events and staying involved.


October 5: First-Thursday Dinner Club

September 21: Bulldog Breakfast Club Featuring Senator Johnny Isakson
Bulldog Breakfast Club
DC Dawgs is pleased to announce our next Bulldog Breakfast Club, which will feature Sen. Johnny Isakson (R - Georgia) (Bio) at 8 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 21, at McKenna Long & Aldridge, 1900 K Street NW (Map). The cost will be $10 for Alumni Association Members and $12 for nonmembers.

September 7: First-Thursday Dinner Club at Primi Piatti
Our inaugural First-Thursday Dinner took place at 7 p.m., September 7 at Primi Piatti. This restaurant was suggested by UGA alumni Edward Gerety, who has also volunteered to organize the dinner. To read a recent review, go to the Washington Post.


SEC Capital Kickoff - Jump to Photo's

August 25: 25th Annual SEC Capital Kickoff
On Friday, August 25th six hundred alumni and students from all twelve SEC schools enjoyed a great party and kickoff celebration at the City Tavern Club in Georgetown. Over sixty DC Dawgs represented Georgia and a great time was had by all. The band, Liquid A, provided the live entertainment with a wide variety of tunes and had the place rockin' all night long. This year's event was another great success and rasied over twelve-hundred dollars for each schools general scholarship fund. Thanks to all who participated and purchased raffle tickets. August 17: Uga 50th Celebration/Kick-off Happy Hour featuring Damn Good Dawg Movie; CMR Signed Football Raffle Drawing
Uga 50th Happy Hour - Jump to Photo's On Thursday, August 17th about twenty-five DC Dawgs enjoyed happy hour at the Crystal City Sports Pub to kick-off the upcoming football season and to celebrate the anniversary of our beloved mascot, Uga. We had drawings for several raffle items including the Damn Good Dawg DVD and a signed Mark Richt football! We also gave away CCSP 20% discount cards to Alumni Association Members. In addition, donations were collected for a local animal shelter. The donations will be given in honor of Uga VI. Congratulations to Sheridan Watson on winning the CMR Signed Football. August 11: UGA Day ay Washington Mystics
Please join your fellow alumni for the UGA Day at the Washington Mystics vs. Detroit Shock game, Friday, August 11, at the Verizon Center. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. The accomplishments of Kara Braxton (Georgia), Kedra Holland-Com (Georgia '97), Deanna Nolan (Georgia '01) of the Shock and Coco Miller (Georgia '01) of the Mystics, will be celebrated. Tickets will be offered at a discounted rate and will be available through a special email offer sent by the Mystics/Ticketmaster.


White House Tour - July 8, 2006

July 8: White House Tour
The UGA Alumni Association, Washington, DC Chapter participated in a tour of the White House on Saturday, July 8, 2006. Many thanks to DC Dawgs Vice President George Koklanaris for arranging and coordianting this event. Twenty DC Dawgs met bright and early in the morning on Pennsylvania Avenue and then took a short walk to the East entrance of the White House. Once through security the tour was self-guided and everyone enjoyed the many past & present photographs and and all the wonderful historical furniture and collectables of the East Wing. The tour lasted about thirty minutes and the group then convened in front of the White Hosue for a group photo, thanks to Lindsay for remembering the UGA flag. Once enough pictures were taken most of the group headed to Caribou Coffee for a morning snack and some great conversation with fellow Dawgs. Click on the picture above for a larger version.


June 3: UGA Day at the Washington Mystics Game
The Washington Mystics are hosting a UGA Day at Saturday's game vs. the Detroit Shock. The accomplishments of Kara Braxton (Georgia), Kedra Holland-Com (Georgia '97), Deanna Nolan (Georgia '01) of the Shock and Coco Miller (Georgia '01) of the Mystics, will be celebrated. The Mystics beat the Shock 92 -68.


May 9: Ladies Night Out
DC Dawgs and the UGA College of Family and Consumer Sciences are sponsoring Ladies Night Out with Allison Brooks, BSFCS '99, owner of Queen Bee Designs, from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2006, at the City Tavern Club in Georgetown (3206 M Street NW) (Map). Queen Bee Designs has turned into a very successful business for Brooks. Her jewelry is being worn by top news anchors, celebs, Miss America, & even Lynne Cheney. Hands on DC

April 29: DC Dawgs Participate in Hands on DC
Hands on DC, an all-volunteer project that creates better schools and brighter futures for students in the District of Columbia was a great success. Eleven DC Dawgs joined over Two Thousand volunteers for this one-day Work-a-Thon that improves conditions in the D.C. public schools and raises money for college scholarships. The DC Dawgs worked at Theodore Roosevelt High School painting outside doors and railings and cleaning trash and brush from the outside perimeter of the school. March 16: Alumni Host Student Dinner at Old Ebbitt Grill
Old Ebbitt Grill
A big thank you to the fifteen alumni who volunteered to participate in the student dinner on March 16. The students headed to DC this week to participate in Alternative Spring Break, an alcohol-free, service-focused event spring break, benefiting the DC area homeless population.


March 14: Bulldog Breakfast Club Featured UGA Professor Gary Bertsch
Bulldog Breakfast Club
The DC Dawgs inaugural Bulldog Breakfast Club took place on Tuesday, March 14, 2006, and featured Dr. Gary Bertsch (Bio), University Professor of Public and International Affairs and Founder and Director of the Center for International Trade and Security. Dr. Bertsch discussed the university's development as a "global university," and the growth of the School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA) and its increasing domestic and international outreach, particularly in the DC metropolitan area. The event was attened by over forty alumni and students and was held at McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP, in downtown Washington, DC.

2005 Holiday Party Photos
The UGA Alumni Association's Washington, DC Chapter recently celebrated the holidays with a social at the American News Women's Club. During the event, young and old, recent grads and long-time Washingtonians, reminisced about their time in Athens and their new experiences in the Washington area. Two alumni discovered that they went to the same high school - 11 years apart! Interestingly, several attendees were graduates of UGA's Grady College (Journalism and Mass Communication). There was much red and black to be seen at the 24th Annual SEC Capital Kickoff held Friday, August 26, at the City Tavern Club in Georgetown. The event featured a live band and much merriment as alums from the 12 SEC schools prognosticated the winners and losers of the 2005 football season. Click here for more pictures.


Lunch with Damon Evans (Bio)
On Thursday, July 28, the DC Dawgs hosted lunch for UGA Athletic Director Damon Evans, Associate Athletic Director for External Operations Dave Muia, and Executive Director for Alumni Relations Deborah Dietzler. Held at The Caucus Room, the lunch provided an opportunity for Evans to discuss the challenges of being Athletic Director at the University of Georgia, as well as the many rewards the position brings. He reflected on his time as a player at UGA, and how the university and the athletics department are working to continue the strong tradition of not only Georgia football, but athletics across the board. DC Cares
On Saturday, May 21, DC Dawgs gathered to help paint the hallways of the Kamit School in Northeast Washington. The project, organized through DC Cares, brought more than 100 volunteers from other alumni organizations, corporations and non-profit groups to the school to give it a "face lift," and inspire students to do their best.
